Product Description
Abstract
You have been hired by the Ohio Family Property Preservation Organization, a social justice NGO with a mission to help Ohio families preserve inherited property, to help resolve a dispute between members of the Jones family over their family land. The family members involved in the dispute are Jo, Ricki, Billie and Lee, each of whom holds a joint undivided interest in a 500 acre plot of land. Jo’s spouse, Alex Smith, although not legally entitled to any portion of the land, has also insisted on attending the facilitation. The four Jones siblings are lower income people whose roots in southern Ohio go back many generations. The family land has been the subject of controversy for the last eight years, since the family matriarch passed away, leaving the land to each of the four Jones children in a joint tenancy. The bickering over what to do with the land began the day of the Jones matriarch’s funeral, and has escalated steadily over the years. Currently, the four Jones siblings have a very poor relationship with one another and consequently have not been able to agree on what to do with the property. The situation regarding the property has become precarious because none of the family members has paid taxes due on it in the past year, and the state is threatening foreclosure. You will be facilitating a meeting with the family members.
